Book Binding Services To Compliment Your Book Printing
When you are printing your own book, there are many different aspects of the process to consider, not least the finish of your work. Having been through all the hard work of writing or compiling your book or booklet, you want the finished product to look the part. Your choice of binding plays a large role in that finished look. Here are some of the more popular booklet binding types to consider when choosing your book binding services:
Saddle Stitching For Budget Control
This form of book binding is also referred to as saddle-stitched or stapled, and is ideal for instruction manual printing. This method uses a long metal wire to bind your pages together. The process involves all the correctly ordered and collated pages to be fed into a machine and aligned, then they are pierced, and wire is fed through the stack of pages and folded into an effective staple. Stitching is probably the most cost-effective option and lends itself to many printed documents such as magazines, programmes, and educational prospectuses. Stitching is not the most luxurious finish to your document but is a practical and affordable option for any document of fifty pages or less. Different sized booklets can be bound together using this method form, typically A6 custom booklets like product or instruction manuals, to A4 for such printed documents as catalogues or menus. Just as an ‘aside’, if you are wondering why this binding method is referred to as ‘saddle-stitching’ when it is actually stapled – his is because when the folded pages are draped over the binding apparatus, they look like a saddle, and this has been an industry term for years.
Perfect Binding For A Perfect Finish
A more sturdy and sophisticated book binding finish is achieved through using the perfect bound method. This involves using a strong PVA glue to attach the spine edge of a stack of papers to a cover wrapped around the stack to secure it. This produces what you would refer to a ‘paperback’ book with a clean, professional, and stylish finish which looks good arranged on a shelf for the spine to be read. For this binding method to be effective, your document should consist of at least forty pages and is ideal for catalogues, directories, handbooks, manuals, and even self-published novels. Employee handbooks and similar documents are nearly always bound with this method.
Wiro Binding For Flexibility
This is a more ‘informal’ method of booklet binding. Used mainly for notebooks, sketchpads, calendars and planners, documents bound with the wiro method can have their pages easily removed. This method binds the pages around a central coil and allows them to lie completely flat and can be opened a full 360 degrees and be easily turned. A stack of papers is hole-punched down one side and a metal or plastic coil is threaded through the holes and secured. Wiro-bound documents can be ‘hard-backed’ as the cover is usually made of thicker card which protects the pages. This is one of the most cost-effective and straightforward options of book binding services.
